DISTRICT PROGRAMS

SENIOR SOFTBALL 50 years and up

The Simi Golden Oldies, managed by Kanji Gotori, 527-2479, and the Simi Silver Foxes, managed by John Velez, 526-8493, play in the Gold Coast Senior Softball League age 50+ Division. The Gray Ghosts, play in the 60 and over Division; contact Paul Snebold at 583-8060. The league consists of five divisions, separated by age and/or skill level, of teams from Santa Barbara, Ojai, Ventura, Oxnard, Santa Paula, Thousand Oaks and Simi Valley. Winter season games are played on Saturday mornings with practices on Monday nights. Spring/Summer league plays games on Monday nights with practices held on Saturday mornings. Call if interested in playing!

Also available, for anyone interested, is a Wednesday morning practice/workout held at Rancho Simi Community Park. This drop-in program begins at 9:00 am.

 

A55 ALIVE@ MATURE DRIVING COURSE 55 years and up

A classroom refresher course divided into two days of four hours each. Upon completion of the course, mature drivers are given a DMV certificate which may entitle them to receive a discount on their auto insurance. Pre-registration and payment is required by mailing or going to the District Office, 1692 Sycamore Drive, Monday through Friday between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm.

SIMI VALLEY SENIOR CITIZENS CLUB

Sponsored by Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District, the group meets at the Sycamore Drive Community Center, 1692 Sycamore Drive.

GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETINGS

- Second and Fourth Fridays at 11:00 am followed by Bingo

Bridge, Pinochle and Tripoly Groups play weekly. Trips and special events are also offered frequently.

Membership Fee: $5 per calendar year (must be a member to participate and receive newsletter.)

SIMI VALLEY SENIOR CITIZENS CENTER

3900 Avenida Simi, Simi Valley; call for more information about: Congregate meal site and Meals On Wheels, Monday through Friday at noon; Lifeline Emergency Home Response Program; Brown Bag Program; social services and activities; health promotion; legal assistance; Grey Law; HICAP; and 27 adult education classes. Senior Dances (live music provided) are held on the second and fourth Fridays of each month from 7:30-10:30 pm with free dance lessons before each dance, 6:30-7:15 pm. Council On Aging meets on the second Monday at 2:00 pm; Rancho Simi Senior Club meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 1:30 pm; and American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) meets the fourth Thursday at 2:00 pm. WATER AEROBICS - For Swimmers and Non-Swimmers

This low impact exercise class is ideal for both the swimmer and non-swimmer. Class will exercise to music and is great for toning, flexibility improvement and fitness. Burn calories and have fun also. The pool water temperature is in the 80's most of the year. Class will be held in shallow water. See Aquatics section for more information.
